We are seeking to recruit a LOGISTICS CUSTOMER SERVICE CLERK with an immediate start. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 09.00 – 5.30pm, the role is based in Newport Pagnell (MK16)

 We are seeking a candidate who possesses excellent Customer Service skills and able to communicate effectively across all levels, an excellent telephone manner, confident in their approach and always striving to offer customers and colleagues the highest level of service. Who is also able to work in a fast paced environment with the Logistics, Distribution & Supply Chain industry sector.

Working for a Global Freight Forwarding and Logistics organisation the role of LOGISTICS CUSTOMER SERVICE CLERK will be to;

  • Liaise with internal and external customers and advise of booking receipts,
  • Confirm Freight details and establish any special requests/requirements,
  • Input all booking data on to an in-house system and generate reports,
  • Trace and track freight keeping customers updated with its status,
  • Take all general freight enquiries.

Provide support and holiday coverage for the local staff when required.
Maintain regular communications with the network and sales team
Report any sales lead (new clients /handover shipment/etc....) to the line manager for distribution to the sales team
Create and propose SOPs for any regular business.
Provide quotation to the sales team / clients and network within 2 hours of receipt and report to Line manager
Ensure one format for quotations and a recording system is in place for all quotes for Sea.
Look and propose new efficiencies in customer work flow and discuss with sales person if allocated or line manager
Ensure all the staff have enough work and measure their activities Monthly
always Maintain high standards of personal quality, Health & Safety and professionalism and actively promote all company policies and procedures
always Represent the company in the best possible light
Ensure all reports are always completed as per deadline provided
Ensure the SOPs are followed completely
Handle any mode of transport if required to do so and instructed by the line manager
Ensure that all invoicing/job costing is done within 48 hours of departure or arrival of the goods, unless otherwise agreed with the line manager, weekly report as agreed.
Look and propose new efficiencies in customer work flow (financial)
Ensure that all goods under our clients deferment account are approved for deliver with accounts or line manager or an agreement must be place on SOP or quotes
Passing invoices from suppliers and providers within 48 hours from receipt
Ensure Insurance is charged correctly
Ensure insurance claims are given to the claims department immediately
Propose and report to Line Manager Strategies related to the Sea products

Extensive experience in all aspects of the Sea Freight industry

Specific knowledge/skills required

We require a dedicated, self- motivated and go-ahead Import Customs and Operations person for an office-based role that entails working as a key part of our successful team here in Purfleet.
The successful candidate will be capable of good liaison with HMRC, our various customers, suppliers and sub-contractors such as shipping lines, hauliers and depots.
He/she will have the ability to maximise profitability, whenever the opportunity arises and to engage with our customers in order to grow their support.
Ideally the candidate must have a proven successful track record of 2-3 years working for a small to medium sized freight forwarder ,with experience of handling multimodal
worldwide import shipments (Air freight, Ocean freight, Road freight) and working hand in glove with our Customs team.

This role would be suitable for someone with a quick brain, who knows how to make the right decision in sometimes difficult circumstances.
A key requirement is the ability to express oneself well verbally and in writing .Excellent work presentation, spelling and grammar is essential. Good maths skills are also required.
He/ She will be reliable, punctual, and have a good understanding of all forwarding operational activities and a good knowledge of the Customs clearance process .
He/she will also have a good telephone manner; be I. T. literate with a good knowledge of CHIEF (soon to be replaced by CDS), Destin8, Word, Excel, Outlook and
PowerPoint ; be able to work well as part of a small team; have drive and ambition and be prepared to undertake office duties of a Customs clearance/Administrative nature.
Good personal presentation and interpersonal skills are essential
