Our client is looking for an Ocean Export/Import Supervisor

Main Requirements:
The Ocean Supervisor role is responsible for overseeing and managing operations related to Export & Import Ocean freight activities. This role requires a strong understanding of ocean regulations/compliance and operational procedures. You will be working closely with the management team as well as the operations team to ensure smooth, quality and productive handling of ocean operations. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills, teamwork and attention to detail. You will be expected to co-ordinate tasks, staff and resources to meet customers requirement and department objectives. Another requirement will be to handle pressure and use own initiative to handle customer enquiries.

Previous experience of Supervisory role within the freight forwarding industry
Computer literate with basic knowledge of Excel, Word. Preferred but not essential AS400, Outlook and ASM Sequoia
Good communication and motivational skills, with the approach to delegate and be able to lead by example and make decisions using sound judgement.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Be able to work accurately with good attention to detail.
Excellent ability to plan, execute and complete a given task within a specified timeframe.
Be able to work as part of a team.
Understand requirements and operational procedures and be able to Identify areas that require Improvement/change/update.
Good organisation skills and ability to oversee others.
Problem solving and leadership skills.
Flexible attitude with requests for reasonable operational related projects which the company requirements.
Training new members of staff on how to handle ocean operations start to end
Running both Import and Export operations as supervisor, overseeing both modes of shipping
A good understanding of CHIEF/CDS entries for Import and Export
Can handle project/ad hoc cargo (Flat Racks, OOG) for both Export and Import
Handling KPIs & maintaining customer profiles to ensure information is up to date to support
Involved in testing and improving new internal systems which will improve work productivity
Managing a team with over 10 members of staff to improve productivity and be a point of contact for any escalation or support where necessary

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
A Supervisor plays a vital role in the smooth running of the operational team and will also be involved in staff training and development. Youre main responsibility would be oversea the operational team providing them with what they require to meet customers needs and requirements. You will also provide assistance to the Assistant Manager with month end and reporting tasks.

Oversee Operational Team
Oversee Staff workload and cover operations when required.
Raising and updating SOPs & Customer Profiles
Delegating tasks to the operational team
Communicating with the team, other departments and branches
Dealing with customer queries
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to organise and prioritise
Ability to motivate others
Ensuring company polices and procedures are followed
Strong knowledge of maritime regulations
Proven experience in ocean operations
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities, especially in high-pressure situations.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with internal and external contacts
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing project requirements.
Comfortable to work with various internal and external systems affectively to improve productivity. (ASM Sequoia, OUTLOOK, GS-NET)

The hours are 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday but flexibility is required

Salary up to GBP38K depending on experience
