Customs Clearance Clerk
Work part of a team reporting to a Branch Manager
· Recognise client commercial invoice(s) and packing list(s) extracting data as necessary to complete import and export declarations.
· Calculating Duty/ VAT per consignment, raising invoices for customs taxes. Sending copy customs entries to clients once entry is submitted to adhered with our AEO regulations.
· Liaising with clients and internal operational colleagues to obtain mandatory information for customs entries.
· Aiding clients on the classification of goods and their importance.
· Entering details onto specialised Customs software including CHIEF, CNS, Destin8, NCTS, NES etc.
· Liaise with Port Health or Customs officials in areas such as document checks, goods examinations etc.
· Dealing with general enquiries from clients concerning all areas, relating to Customs Procedures, Tariff Classifications, Duty Rates and any other documentation requirements
· Keeping up to date with changes in regulations, laws and customs procedures
Experience & knowledge:
· Previous experience is essential.
· Can work under own autonomy whilst recognising when to escalate.
· Have a good understanding of Customs legal requirements and the impact of incorrect information and/or Customs declarations - extensive customs knowledge would be an advantage.
· Strong communication skills both written and verbal, as you will be required to compile documentation and be able to interpret the legal requirements on behalf of customers in a clear and simple way whilst dealing with various agencies daily.
· Complex problem solving and the ability to engage critical thinking skills will be required as well as the ability to actively listen and interpret concisely.
· Although you will work as part of a team, you need to be self-motivating and be able to organise your work effectively and maintain records.
· Ability to operate windows-based applications and any other software that is standard within the industry.
· Work in a fast-paced environment ensuring clearance processes are completed in a complaint and timely manner.
· Excellent numerical skills are essential to be able to manually calculate customs taxes if necessary.
