The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Operations Supervisor to join a specialist freight forwarding business focused on the movement of high-value and sensitive goods.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced freight forwarding professional who is ready to take the next step into a supervisory position, overseeing a team of operators while remaining hands-on with the day-to-day operation.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring shipments are managed efficiently, compliantly and to the highest possible service standards.
The Role
As Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of freight forwarding operators, ensuring that shipments are processed accurately, deadlines are met and customers receive an exceptional level of service.
You will act as a key point of escalation for the team, providing guidance and support on operational, Customs and customer-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and support a team of freight forwarding operators.
Oversee the day-to-day operation, ensuring shipments are managed efficiently and accurately.
Allocate workloads and monitor team performance to ensure deadlines and service levels are achieved.
Provide guidance and escalation support on complex operational issues.
Oversee Customs procedures and entries, ensuring compliance and accuracy across the team.
Review and support operators with more complex Customs requirements.
Ensure all documentation and shipment information is accurate and completed within required timescales.
Monitor shipments from booking through to final delivery, proactively addressing any issues or delays.
Liaise with customers, suppliers, airlines, hauliers, overseas agents and other stakeholders.
Maintain a high level of customer service, particularly given the sensitive and high-value nature of the goods being handled.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and service levels within the operation.
Train, mentor and develop team members, helping to build technical and operational capability.
Monitor workload, productivity and performance across the team.
Act as a senior operational point of contact when the Operations Manager is unavailable.
Ensure company procedures, compliance requirements and industry best practices are consistently followed.
About You
We are looking for an experienced freight forwarding professional with strong operational knowledge and the confidence to lead and support a team.
You will ideally have:
Previous experience within freight forwarding/logistics, ideally involving high-value, time-sensitive or specialist cargo.
Previous supervisory, team-leading or senior operator experience.
Strong knowledge of Customs procedures and processes.
The ability to oversee and quality-check the work of a team of operators.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
Strong attention to detail, particularly around Customs and shipping documentation.
The confidence to make decisions and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and customer service.
The ability to remain calm and organised in a fast-paced environment.
Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of the importance of margins, service levels and customer retention.
A genuine desire to develop people and improve operational performance.
