About the Role
An established freight forwarding business based in the Heathrow area is looking for an experienced Start-to-Finish Import Clerk to join their busy operations team.
This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for managing import shipments from initial arrival through to final delivery, ensuring all documentation, customs requirements and communications are handled accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Manage import shipments from start to finish, from pre-alert through to final delivery.
Handle import documentation and ensure all paperwork is completed accurately.
Liaise with shipping lines, airlines, hauliers, customs agents and overseas offices.
Coordinate customs clearance and ensure all necessary information is provided.
Monitor shipment arrivals and delivery schedules.
Arrange deliveries and communicate with transport providers.
Track shipments and provide customers with regular updates.
Resolve any operational issues or delays quickly and professionally.
Prepare and check commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading/air waybills and other relevant documentation.
Ensure shipments comply with customs and import regulations.
Maintain accurate records and update internal systems.
Raise invoices and check supplier charges where required.
Provide a high level of customer service throughout the import process.
Work closely with the wider operations and customer service teams.
About You
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working within freight forwarding or logistics, with strong knowledge of the import process.
You will ideally have:
Previous experience in a start-to-finish import role.
Good knowledge of UK import procedures and customs clearance.
Experience dealing with shipping lines, airlines, hauliers and overseas agents.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
The ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Strong IT skills and confidence using freight/logistics systems.
The ability to work independently while also contributing to a busy team.
A proactive approach to problem-solving.
