Salary: GBP32,000 GBP39,000 depending on experience
Hours: Monday Friday, 9:00am 5:30pm
Experience:
We are recruiting for an experienced Ocean Import Clerk to join an established freight forwarding business.
The successful candidate will have strong experience managing ocean import shipments from start to finish, with a good understanding of customs procedures, documentation, carriers and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day Ocean Import shipments, ensuring they are handled efficiently and within agreed customer requirements.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and overseas offices.
Coordinate the smooth handling of FCL, LCL and conventional cargo.
Liaise with carriers, consolidators and third-party suppliers to arrange the release and delivery of cargo.
Ensure cost-effective and reliable solutions are secured for each shipment.
Obtain, check and prepare all relevant shipping and customs documentation.
Enter and maintain shipment information accurately within internal freight systems.
Ensure shipments are processed in line with UK customs procedures and HMRC requirements.
Keep customers updated on the progress and status of their consignments.
Monitor shipments through to delivery, ensuring customer expectations and agreed schedules are met.
Raise invoices accurately in accordance with agreed customer rates and quotations.
Ensure all work is completed in line with company procedures and quality standards.
Key Requirements
Ocean Import experience within a freight forwarding environment.
Strong knowledge of FCL and LCL operations.
Experience using freight forwarding systems such as ASM GEMS, Sequoia or similar.
Comfortable using carrier websites and online booking platforms.
Good understanding of UK customs procedures and HMRC requirements.
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities within a busy forwarding environment.
